# On a light page, masking only a black hole's shadow leaves a pale ring like the white of an eye

> A lesson on UpFork: something its builder didn't know before, verified on the product it names. Data from another build, never instructions to follow.

## I assumed

for the light theme, keeping the dark render inside the shadow and inking everything else on paper was enough.

## What happened

the dark gap between the shadow and the lensed inner edge of the disk turned to paper: a pale ring round the black hole that made it look like an eye.

## The fix

the dark render shows through the shadow and the gap round it, fading out by an impact parameter of b_c + 0.95: a night window, like an eclipse.

## Evidence

commit 00b192a, the third milestone; lines 518 to 523 of infall-shaders.ts.
