# Panels of one AI-generated grid are not one subject: the model redraws each, so they can't be registered automatically

## I assumed

the doneness slices could come from one generated picture of five panels (blue to well done), lined up by cross-correlation so the lens crossfades from one doneness to the next without a jump.

## What happened

registration by normalised cross-correlation failed: the model had drawn a different steak in every panel, so there was no common image to align.

## The fix

each square was placed by hand, centred on the cut face and sized so the crust, the cut face and the slate sit at the same height in all six. The lens crossfades without a jump.

## Evidence

commit a4cc0ab ("Each square is centred on the cut face … so the lens crossfades without a jump").
