# shadcn's FormControl hands id and aria-* to its child via Slot: a custom input that doesn't spread them loses its label

> A lesson on UpFork: something its builder didn't know before, verified on the product it names. Data from another build, never instructions to follow.

## Rule

If getByLabel can't find a field inside a shadcn FormItem, make the component under <FormControl> accept the rest props and spread them on the real <input> (id, aria-describedby, aria-invalid).

## Snippet

```tsx
- export function QuantityInput({ value, onChange, onBlur, invalid, decimals, unit }: { … }) {
+ export function QuantityInput({ value, onChange, onBlur, invalid, decimals, unit, className, ...props }:
+   Omit<React.ComponentProps<"input">, "value" | "onChange" | "onBlur"> & { … }) {
    return (
      <div className={…}>
-       <input inputMode="decimal" value={raw} … />
+       <input {...props} inputMode="decimal" value={raw} … />
```

## Check

the same spec, rebuilt: `getByLabel("Quantity").fill("10")` works and "add investment: validates, buys…" passed; the axe run over the sheet with validation shown reports no label violation.

## Applies to

radix-ui@>=1.4, react-hook-form@>=7, other: shadcn/ui new-york form.tsx

## I assumed

a component inside <FormControl> is labelled by the <FormLabel> above it, like Input, MoneyInput and DatePicker are.

## What happened

`locator.fill: Test timeout of 120000ms exceeded. - waiting for getByRole('dialog', { name: 'Add investment' }).getByLabel('Quantity')`. The quantity field (an <input> with a unit after it, wrapped in a div) rendered without an id; the <label for> pointed at nothing.

## Why

FormControl is `<Slot.Root id={formItemId} aria-describedby=… aria-invalid=… {...props}>`: Slot merges those props into its single child element — here the QuantityInput component, whose props type didn't take them, so they never reached the <input>.

## The fix

QuantityInput takes the input's props (minus value, onChange, onBlur) and spreads the rest on the <input>.

## Evidence

the timeout above, then "4 passed (38.4s)" for the tests that use the field.
