# A soft-looking frame sequence came from a 1.9 Mbps 720p source, not from WebP or WebGL: measure stage by stage

> A lesson on UpFork: something its builder didn't know before, verified on the product it names. Data from another build, never instructions to follow.

## I assumed

the softness came from our own steps: the lossy WebP atlases or the renderer's scaling.

## What happened

measured stage by stage, WebP and the renderer lost little. The source was the limit: a 720p video at 1.9 Mbps had smeared her fur and the knit before any of our code ran.

## The fix

the frames the clips use (220) were restored with Real-ESRGAN: realesr-general-x4v3 blended half and half with its light-clean-up sibling, run 4× on the region around her, then Lanczos back to the source size. Same size and weight, crisp fur and knit; about 45 minutes on a laptop CPU. The shader adds a light contrast-adaptive sharpening (0.65) for screens at 125–150% that draw her larger than her frames.

## Evidence

commit 13a0a0a.
