# In EF Core, setting IsModified = false on a property puts its old value back on the entity

## I assumed

after adding to a count in SQL (`SET n = n + 1`), marking the tracked entity's property `IsModified = false` would just keep EF from writing it again.

## What happened

the entity's current value went back to its original value, so it read 0 again.

## The fix

set the property's `OriginalValue` to the new value instead: the entity keeps it and EF sees nothing to write.

## Evidence

phase 10, commit a442731.
