# Text over moving light can pass contrast in one frame and fail in the next: measure the worst moment, then add a scrim

## I assumed

dimming the light behind the copy enough for it to look readable kept all of its text readable.

## What happened

a test that renders eight moments of the animation and compares each text block with the brightest light behind it (the 98th percentile of the pixels under it, so a few stray ones don't count) found the stats' labels at 1.01:1 in the dark theme.

## The fix

a stronger scrim in two parts: a darkening toward the bottom of the hero, and a soft pool of the background colour behind the copy itself, which follows the text block at any size. The test now requires at least 4.5:1 at the worst of the eight moments, in both themes.

## Evidence

the GPU test "text keeps 4.5:1 against the worst light behind it"; styles.css lines 202–212 and 244–251.
