If getComputedStyle returns lab(98.2% -.09 -1.13) for a token you wrote as oklch(), the CSS build rewrote it: parse lab() (and oklab()) in any runtime colour maths.

getComputedStyle(document.documentElement).getPropertyValue("--background") returns the value as written in globals.css, oklch(0.985 0.003 264).
it returned lab(98.248% -.0918508 -1.13485), so a contrast table that parsed only oklch(), rgb() and hex showed nothing. The served CSS had :root { --background: #f9fafc; … } and then @supports (color: lab(0% 0 0)) { :root { --background: lab(98.248% …) } }: 220 lab( and 2 oklch( in the stylesheet.
the CSS is lowered for the configured browser targets (Lightning CSS): oklch() becomes a hex fallback plus lab() behind @supports, and Chrome takes the lab() branch.
parseColor (src/lib/contrast.ts) also reads lab() (CIE Lab D50 → Bradford → linear sRGB, per CSS Color 4) and oklab(), with numbers like -.09 and 1e-5.
fetched CSS chunk and probe output, 2026-10-28 (Next.js 16.4.3 with Turbopack, Chrome 156).
