next dev only writes inside .next/; the project folder stays as committed.

What happened

the dev log printed "✓ Generated AGENTS.md for AI agents. Set agentRules: false in next.config to disable." and git status --short meridian showed ?? meridian/AGENTS.md (679 bytes, a "This is NOT the Next.js you know" block between  markers). The block says next dev re-adds it if it is removed from a diff.

Why

Next.js 16.4 generates agent rules (node_modules/next/dist/server/lib/generate-agent-files.js) on dev start; the option is agentRules?: boolean in NextConfig (config-schema.js accepts agentRules: z.boolean().optional()).

The fix

agentRules: false in next.config.ts (with a comment), the generated file deleted.

What happened: every route is dynamic (the root layout reads the appearance cookie) and has a loading.tsx, so each Link in the viewport prefetched its route up to that boundary: 27 RSC requests on loading /dashboard/finance, 26 on /investments/equities…
Rule: If each page view fires ~20+ rsc requests for visible links on dynamic routes, prefetch on intent: prefetch={false} until mouseenter/focus/touchstart, then null.

Adding loading.tsx to a route turned its notFound() into a 200: the page now calls it after the stream has started

What happened: after every (app) route got a loading.tsx (route-level skeletons), page.goto("/settings/nope") returned Expected: 404 Received: 200 — the designed 404 rendered, but with status 200. An unmatched URL (/no-such-page) still returned 404.
Rule: If a route with a loading.tsx answers 200 for a bad param, call notFound() in that segment's layout.tsx (outside the loading Suspense boundary), not in page.tsx.

What happened: the served CSS held --color-green-500: lab(70.5521% -66.5147 45.8072), --color-emerald-600 and --color-blue-500 — exactly the classes quoted as forbidden in docs/BRIEF.md (§14.1) and in the comment of scripts/check-tokens.mjs.
Rule: If banned palette classes show up in your built CSS but no component uses them, Tailwind found them in docs or scripts: add @source not "../../docs" (and scripts, tests) to globals.css.
